1. Understand, Diagnose, and Manage Major Central Speech Disorders
By the end of the course, the student should be capable of using their knowledge and/or finding the necessary information to understand, prevent, diagnose, and effectively manage speech disorders resulting from central disorders: dysarthrias, apraxias of speech, verbal dyspraxia, stuttering, and other speech disorders.
The student will also be capable of finding relevant scientific articles to address their questions, reading, evaluating, and presenting them.
- Understand, diagnose, and manage dysarthrias.
- Understand, diagnose, and manage apraxia of speech and verbal dyspraxia.
- Understand, diagnose, and manage stuttering.
- Introduction to other central speech disorders: mutism, anarthria, etc.
- Learn to find, read, evaluate, and use scientific publications for clinical purposes and communicate about them.

Teaching methods
Lectures and practical exercises will be conducted in person as long as the COVID-19-related health situation permits.
If the health situation does not allow for in-person classes, then the course will be conducted remotely.
If the COVID-19 epidemic situation permits, students who wish to do so will also be supported in organizing a conference day for clinical speech therapists and other students focusing on recent developments in the field of speech and its disorders

Evaluation methods
The course assessment aims to measure the achievement of the intended learning outcomes. This assessment will consist of two parts:
- An examination comprising open-ended questions (out of 15 points). The assessment language is French. As long as the COVID-19-related health situation allows, both the first and second session exams will be written and conducted in person. If the health situation does not permit the organization of an in-person exam, then a remote oral examination will be arranged.
- The completion of a communication project (in French) aimed at contributing to the knowledge, diagnosis, or treatment of central speech disorders (out of 5 points). For example, presentation within a conference organized within the faculty or the creation of original content that will be made available to speech therapists.
