At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
Dutch refresher course in order to reach level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference. The course examines the elements necessary to be able to understand a basic text, follow a basic conversation and be able to respond and react briefly in Dutch. The courses will enable to: - develop receptive skills through the reading of current articles on topics of everyday life and topics related to the chosen options; - develop productive skills by building on elementary knowledge (grammar and vocabulary); - to contextualize and use the vocabulary and grammar studied. |
|
Content
The lessons will be built around a grammatical part and a lexical part:
- Revision of elementary grammar;
- Revision of elementary vocabulary (personal data / studies / housing / travel / health);
- News and introduction to the specific vocabulary of the chosen options.
- Reading of the book Niks by Koen Gubbels (Amsterdam: Leeslicht/Eenvoudig communiceren, 2018, 88p.).

Teaching methods
Face-to-face, if sanitary conditions allow it. Otherwise, the courses will be given via TEAMS. First and second term, 30 hours of theory.
Therefore, the students MUST check the platform Moodle regularly and read ALL announcements to keep informed about teaching and assessment procedures.
There is one hour of Dutch per week.
The course is mainly devoted to reading, speaking and writing activities, based on everyday situations (utilitary Dutch) and partly related to current affairs and partly to the themes of the student's chosen section, as well as to grammar.
If part of the teaching activities cannot be carried out face-to-face for health reasons, instructions will be sent by Moodle / Teams and the active participation of each student in these activities is expected. Any changes to this lesson plan (content, timetable, etc.) due to external circumstances will be communicated by Moodle.
An exemption test (and not a level test) is organized at the beginning of the first term, in the second part of September 2022, to allow the strongest students to be exempted from the course.
Please note that an overall mark of 16/20 must be obtained in order to be exempted from the course and that it is not possible to present this test at another time.

Evaluation methods
The examination covers all the subjects studied in class, of which the syllabus provides only a support.
The written off-session exam for Q1 will take place on Monday, 12 December 2022.
It will cover the subject matter of the first period (Q1).
Students who do not obtain half of the grade in December must retake this part in May, on the same day as Q2.
The written off-session exam for Q2 (and possibly Q1) will take place on Monday, 15 May 2023. It will cover the subject matter of the whole year (for Q1 see above) and the reading of the book Niks (see above).
At the end of the year, the student obtains a mark for the whole year.
The final proportion is 40% for Q1 and 60% for Q2.
If the student does not get an average mark of 10/20 for the whole year, he/she must retake in August the period(s) (either Q1 or Q2 or both) for which he or she did not obtain the mark of 10/20. Grades of 10/20 or higher will be retained. The student will therefore not be able to represent a period for which he/she has obtained a mark of 10/20 or higher.
If the sanitary conditions do not allow for face-to-face examinations, the assessment methods will be hybrid. It will also be an out-of-session examination and the weighting will remain the same. Any changes to the assessments due to external circumstances will be communicated through Moodle.
