  • Successful completion of the core course LTRAD2200 Post-editing and revision;
  • Successful completion of at least one core course in specialised translation or one of theÌýspecialised courses ofÌýBlock 1 of the Master of Translation programme.

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

This unit contributes to the acquisition and development of the following learning outcomes, as assigned to the Master's degree in translation:Ìý2.1, 2.3, 2.6, 2.7,Ìý4.6, 4.7,Ìý8.3 andÌý8.5.
Specific learning outcomes on completion of teaching unit
On completing this unit the student is able to:
  • Take part in a translation process with a full understanding of the final stakes of quality control;
  • Participate in a translation project as junior translator and contribute to the successful completion of the project;
  • Distinguish between translation error and translator/reviser preference.
 
Content

- Students will:


- be introduced to the theory of Quality Assurance (brief overview of the QA history, ISO, European and national standards for translation services, going from proofreading to QA, etc.) and the purpose of the quality assurance process;
- study different QA processes implemented in translation agencies ;
- read material related to the QA process ;

- prepare for the summative assessment through various exercises and/or assignments. Formative feedback will be provided.

Sessions partly organized through Moodle.
Individual and/or group assignments.

Formative assessment during the term.
January exam session : summative assessment consisting in an assignment (paper to be handed in on the last course of the term).
The detailed assignment instructions will be e-mailed and/or posted on Moodle.
August/September exam session: assignment.
Summative assessment: The use of generative AI is strictly forbidden.
