At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  • Gain a solid understanding of the history of philosophy.
  • Become familiar with the work of some of the major authors in the philosophical tradition.
  • Distinguish a thesis from a philosophical argument.
  • Produce a problematized reflection on a philosophical question.
  • Defend and criticize philosophical arguments.
  • Approach knowledge from a critical, reflective stance.
  • Understand and explain a philosophical text.
 
Content
The aim of this course is to explore the relationship between philosophy and the question of norms. Drawing on a corpus of classical and contemporary texts, we will examine how the practice of philosophy, and the astonishment it arouses in those who engage in it, relates to the question of norms, in its ethical (norms of the good), epistemological (norms of the true) and aesthetic (norms of the beautiful) aspects.
