Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  • Define the basic concepts of operations management
  • Recognise the basic principles of operations management in business applications
  • Paraphrase the mathematical and statistical foundations of these basic principles
  • Illustrate these basic principles with examples
  • Model concrete problems, and
  • Solve these problems.
 
Content
The foundations of operations management are taught through the following subdomains:
• Demand forecasting
• Stock management
• Planning
• Just-in-time
• Waiting-lines
• Quality management
• Project Management
Teaching methods
Face-to-face, 30 hours of theory et 15 hours of exercises
Evaluation methods
The summative assessment is an oral closed-book examination, with written preparation.
The theory portion of the exam assesses the ability to define, recognize, paraphrase and illustrate fundamental concepts.
The practical portion assesses the ability to model and solve concrete problems.
The final mark is the arithmetical average of the marks for the theory and practical sections.
