Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

As studies of French and Romance Language and Literature are centred on the linguistic and literary areas, the knowledge acquired in first year will be developed and completed by the study of Spanish and Hispano American literature and through a more systematic approach of diachronic and synchronic linguistics. It will also enable the students to familiarise themselves with authentic sources (oral and written) as well as reference documents in linguistic and literature.
The course also emphasises oral expression: presentations, commentary and analysis of literary texts as well as the mastery of the written language through writing summaries and essays.
It will encourage the students to have an active attitude and carry out personal work in the library for instance.

At the end of the course students will have reached the B1-B2 level defined by the Common European Framework of Reference.
 
Content
Theoretical explanations and practical exercises with a view to further grammatical structures and vocabulary.
Special attention will be paid to the syntax of the language.

Development of receptive (reading comprehension or comprehension of simple messages in standard language) and production skills (conversations, presentations, written essays).
Practice of sociolinguistical and intercultural aspects...
Reading and analysis of texts of Spanish and Latin American contemporary literature.
Teaching methods
In-person and homework :
Ex cathedra lecture on Spanish grammar
Practical exercises of comprehension and production that imply an active participation of the students
Semi-autonomous learning of vocabulary
Personal work on grammar (exercises)
Personal readings including, among others, the reading of complete works
Evaluation methods
A mark is awarded at the end of each term as follows:
1st term:
  • 30% Continuous assessment: written work; CL, CA and OE exercises 
  • 20% Continuous assessment: vocabulary and/or grammar tests (see calendar on Moodle)
  • 50% Final written exam 1st term
2nd term:
  • 20% Continuous assessment: written work, CL, CA and OE exercises, vocabulary and/or grammar tests (see calendar on Moodle)
  • 30% Literary analysis assignment (10% written work + 20% oral exam)
  • 50% Final written exam 2nd term
The final grade for the course is established as follows: Q1 is worth 40% and Q2 60%.
Unless otherwise stated, the use of generative AI is of course forbidden for any activity subject to evaluation.
