Welcome to the听LIDAM Institute
LIDAM (initially听IMMAQ) was founded in听2009听as a research unit which combines fundamental and applied research, relevant in order to target and answer questions as they arise in the public and in the private sector of society 鈥� at a regional, national and international scale. More than听200 researchers and consultants, of about听15 different nationalities, contribute to the productivity of this unit. Its common denominator is the use of a coherent set of tools and methods for quantitative听modelling听and analysis in such diverse fields as actuarial sciences, econometrics, geography, mathematical finance, various areas of economic modelling, game theory, discrete听optimisation听and operational research, statistics and听biostatistics.
As such听LIDAM gathers researchers from听four different research entities and a听consulting platform:听

These common scientific methodologies triggered also some听important synergies on the level of the听administrative support听of the Institute: our staff members, displaying complementary expertise, started to work together and built a team which can more and more efficiently take care of supporting the ongoing increasing activity within the Institute and its visibility inside and beyond听UCLouvain.听
A听major听development is听the听consulting platform听SMCS,听which although administratively supported within the Institute is become a service across all disciplines in the three sectors of听UCLouvain听(science and technology, medical sciences, and humanities). As听institutional service to the society听we have also the Service of Economic Analysis, that publishes the review听Regards听Economiques听and also the听Services听d'Analyses Economiques听run by IRES.
Today, our research is focused on the following current topics:听study of newly听emerging energy markets,听modeling and control of听financial and actuarial risks,听extreme events,听there form of the pension system,听study of economic indicators, such as unemployment and of social inequalities, mobility,听听well-beeing, analysis of environmental questions,听big data, health, statistical modeling and analysis of complex biological systems etc.
