This teaching unit being of intermediate level, the productive command of basic grammar and vocabulary as well as the command of the language skills as described for the teaching unit ofÌý intermediate level (LNEER1823) or for the teaching unit of the first year of the Bachelor's degree in Law (LNEER1821) are required.

Culture In the development of all the above-mentioned skills the course will aim at making the students aware of Dutch and Flemish cultural aspects. |
Content
The course aims at enabling the student to function in the relevant social and professional contexts (law enforcement, the judicial world, the execution of criminal sentences, the field of prevention policies and psycho-social interventions). The student will practise the language in an interactive way through classroom professional-type activities and will therefore be exposed to a variety of real-life situations requiring specific language functions. Regular feedback on the student's oral production will help him consolidate and improve his grammar use, vocabulary accuracy as well as pronunciation.
At the end of the term, the student should have acquired oral skills roughly corresponding to theÌýlevelÌýB1Ìýof « the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ».

Evaluation methods
Attendance at this language course is required.ÌýIn accordance withÌýarticle 72Ìýof the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations, the teacher may propose to the jury that a student who hasÌýtwo unjustified absencesÌýfor the course be refused registration for the January, June or September session.
January/June exam

A. ContinuousÌýassessmentÌý(60%)Ìý: During the term, students will be required to complete a number of tasks.
-Task 1: Making a telephone call - individual assignment (1/20)
-Task 2: Personal reflection on a podcast/video of ‘De Universiteit van Vlaanderen / De Universiteit van Nederland’ on a criminological topic (choice from a series of videos on Moodle) - individual assignment (2/20)
-Task 3: Presentation on a criminological topic - assignment per two students (3/20)
-Task 4: Discussion on a criminological topic - assignment per four students (2/20)
There will also be two tests on vocabulary, grammar, written expression, reading comprehension and listening comprehension. (2 tests of 2/20 each): 4/20
B. Oral examÌý(40%)Ìý:ÌýAn individualÌýformalÌýpresentation of a criminology-oriented topic based on a portfolio of scientific article
September exam
Same modalities as in January/June.
- Students who fail the individual oral examination during the first session will have to retake this component during the second session (August-September).
- Students who obtained more than ≥6/12 for the permanent evaluation tasks during the first session will retain their marks in the second session.
- Students who obtained less than <6/12 for the permanent evaluation tasks during the first session must retake those tasks for which they received a failing grade.
Students who have not attended the course during the term will be required to take all the tests of the term. He/she will also be required to watch 4 compulsory videos, summarize them and comment on them orally. He/she will then take the oral exam itself.

Unless a note of attendance is requested, absence from the oral examination will result in a final mark of absence.
