A chemist by training, with a doctorate in science from the Catholic University of Louvain, Michel Devillers has been vice-rector of the science and technology sector of the UCLouvain since 2013, which brings together 4 faculties and 7 research institutes.

After serving as Chairman of the Department of Chemistry from 2006 to 2009, he was the first Chairman of the Institute of Condensed Matter and Nanosciences from 2009 to 2013. He has been actively involved in the governance of the university for many years, having served on the Academic Council for more than 10 years to date, as well as in several of its commissions (teaching and training, research, libraries).
His career at UCLouvain began as a qualified researcher at the FNRS, after having been involved in European Community research projects on nuclear fusion at the Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe and having worked in the field of organometallic chemistry at the University of Pisa.
Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry, his research activities focus on coordination chemistry and its application to the synthesis of functional inorganic materials and heterogeneous catalysts.
He also chairs the Board of Directors and the General Assembly of the Haute École Léonard de Vinci.
