The Faculty of Bioengineering offers three advanced master’s courses:

Advanced master’s course in brewing engineering (60 credits, one year)

The advanced master’s course in brewing engineering offers:

  • coursework in the biochemistry, chemistry and microbiology of malting and brewing processes;
  • coursework in the practical, technological and organoleptic aspects of malting and brewing;
  • a dissertation-internship enabling students to learn about the brewing sector in a practical context;
  • the opportunity to acquire a high-level professional qualification.

Advanced master’s course in the water-energy-food nexus (60 credits, one year)

The advanced master’s course in the water-energy-food nexus is an interuniversity programme between the University of Liège and the UCLouvain Faculty of Bioengineering (AGRO Louvain).

The course is recognised by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation Development Cooperation Commission (ARES-CCD), enabling students from developing countries to apply for scholarships.

Course enrolment is possible only at the University of Liège but educational activities are split between the two universities.

Advanced master’s course in environmental and sustainable development science and management (ENVI2MC) (120 credits, two years)

The aim of this interdisciplinary master’s course in environmental science and management and sustainable development is to educate students to become professionals capable of:

  • interacting with all individuals involved in the field;
  • taking a systemic approach to environmental problems and integrating all the factors and dimensions required for their rational management: scientific, economic, ethical, societal and technical;
  • developing an overview of all “ecosystem-sociosystem” interactions, and identifying the synergies required to implement actions.

The completion of the master’s course qualifies holders for jobs related to the environment, but also other fields, as our graduates are highly adaptable. They can be found in private companies, consultancies, non-governmental organisations and associations (from regional to international level), and public administrations (from municipal to international level), as well as in education. The sectors concerned are mainly the tertiary sector (services) and consultancy, the secondary sector (manufacturing and processing), and to a lesser extent the primary sector (raw materials extraction).

Please note that the interdisciplinary nature of the master’s course requires sufficient prior skills to obtain the expected professional benefit: the master’s course is designed for students who have already completed a first 120-credit master’s course (or equivalent; minimum 300 credits; university or haute école). At the same time, its interdisciplinary nature means that it can be taken by candidates who want to deepen their knowledge and develop their skills, whatever the field of their first master’s degree, whether in science and technology, social science and humanities, or health science. The ENVI2MC master’s course is only offered during daytime hours and in the classroom.
