The ILC’s researchers share and cross-fertilise their respective know-how as linguists and information/communication experts.
The linguists study the functioning of language, whether written, spoken or gestural (sign language). They also study how languages differ from each other and how any given language varies in different usage contexts. This knowledge can be applied to language acquisition, among other areas.
In the case of communication, the subjects of analysis are forms of interaction (depending on image, sound, text, or a combination of the three) and the role of mediatised communication in the organisation of institutions and human societies.
The research leads to the production of corpora and prototypes, research reports and doctoral theses, consultancy and service to society, sometimes including spin-off creation.
