On-campus mobility

TRANSIT

As the basis for all mobility-related strategies, interventions, and activities, the University has incorporated the STOP principle, a structural means of favouring low-carbon modes of travel by prioritising pedestrians over bicycles, bicycles over public transport, and public transport over cars.

In Wallonia, UCLouvain also applies the and participates in efforts to achieve ambitious objectives necessary for transition to soft mobility by 2030. As an organisation with more than one hundred employees, the University is obliged under federal law to maintain a Company Travel Plan (PDE), which allows it to map the mobility uses of its community but also to study possible improvements for adapted mobility.

Bicycles

To encourage the use of bicycles and make their use easier, UCLouvain is stepping up its actions by constantly adapting its infrastructure; by offering various services linked to bicycle use; and by reimbursing bicycle commuters.

Tous vélos actifs

Since 2013 UCLouvain has participated in Tous vélos actifs as part of Wallonie Cyclable, a broad awareness-raising and communication campaign promoting bicycle commuting piloted by the Service public de Wallonie.

Public transportation

UCLouvain actively promotes the use of public transportation, in particular by reimbursing staff members for season tickets. The amount paid annually for these trips comes to more than €1 million.

On-demand TEC project

You need to travel between Louvain-la-Neuve and the surrounding areas, but do not have a regular bus line? Take advantage of the test service of transport on demand, set up by the TEC. Simply book your journey online. TEC à la demande runs from Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 19:30pmÌýand on Saturday from 9:30am to 19:30pm.

Cars and carpooling

UCLouvain encourages carpooling. The Carpool app, available to staff members, helps to organise trips on either a daily or as-needed basis.

The University also authorises and reimburses the occasional use of car sharing services in order to allow its staff to combine a low-carbon commute and car travel during the workday for professional reasons. Services demonstrating a regular need for shared cars can benefit from a framework contract between UCLouvain and Cambio.

Telework and videoconferencing

The workplace is changing, and UCLouvain is committed to offering solutions adapted to its employees. At the initiative of the Positive Actions group within the Conseil d’entreprise, the University has set up a structural teleworking framework. A real tool for reconciling professional and private lives, working at home is an opportunity offered to all staff members.

To facilitate virtual exchanges, the University has also equipped several rooms with high-performance videoconferencing equipment.
